Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), : Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a Dalit girl in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, according to local police reports.
In a statement on X, Rahul Gandhi said, "The inhumanity and brutal murder of a Dalit daughter in Ayodhya is heartbreaking and shameful. Had the administration responded to the family’s cries for help, which went unheard for three days, perhaps this tragedy could have been averted."
He continued, "Another innocent life has been lost to this heinous crime. How many more families must suffer before change happens? Under the BJP-led government, especially in Uttar Pradesh, the rise in crimes and injustices against Dalits is rampant."
Additionally, Rahul Gandhi urged authorities to treat the victim’s family with respect and refrain from the harassment they have allegedly faced in similar cases. He called for a thorough investigation, the prompt arrest of the perpetrators, and strict disciplinary action against the responsible police officers. "The daughters of our nation and the entire Dalit community are watching; justice must be served," he added.
In a separate development, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down in tears during a press conference after the discovery of the victim’s body in a village. He described the incident as an "extremely sad and inhuman crime" and vowed to resign from the Lok Sabha if justice was not served.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh, describing the incident as an example of the "Jungle Raj" in the state where the cries of Dalits, tribals, and the poor go unheard. "The brutal treatment of a Dalit girl who had attended the Bhagwat Katha in Ayodhya is a horrifying act that defies human decency. This atrocity shames all of humanity," she said in a post on X.
Priyanka Gandhi further pointed out that despite the girl being missing for three days, the police took no action. "In the BJP's Jungle Raj, no one listens to the cries of Dalits, tribals, and the oppressed. The Uttar Pradesh government has become synonymous with atrocities against Dalits," she said, demanding strict action against those responsible, including police officers.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Maurya, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission, met with the victim’s family and assured them that justice would prevail. "This is a very tragic incident," Maurya remarked. "I have met with the family and assured them that justice will be served. The Yogi government is in power, and the family will receive justice."
