CBSE Board Exams 2025: Over 42 Lakh Students Set to Appear

 The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will commence the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for the 2024-25 academic year on Saturday, February 15. A record 42,00,237 students are set to take the exams, reflecting a notable increase of 3,14,695 candidates compared to last year’s total of 38,85,542.


According to CBSE data, 24,12,072 students from Class 10 will be appearing for exams across 84 subjects, while 17,88,165 Class 12 students will be tested in 120 subjects.

Examination Schedule and Guidelines

On the opening day, Class 10 students will sit for their English (Communicative) and English (Language and Literature) papers from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Simultaneously, Class 12 students will take the Entrepreneurship exam.

Strict entry guidelines have been implemented for all examination centres:

  • Students must arrive before 10:00 AM; late entry will not be permitted.
  • Candidates cannot exit the exam hall before the official end time of 1:30 PM.
  • Regular students must carry their admit cards and school identity cards, while private candidates need to present government-issued photo ID along with their admit cards.
  • School uniforms are mandatory for regular students, whereas private candidates are required to wear light clothing.

Prohibited Items and Security Measures

To maintain exam integrity, CBSE has prohibited the use of mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, smartwatches, wallets, handbags, and any electronic communication tools inside exam centres.

CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh emphasized the board’s commitment to conducting fair and transparent examinations. “The CBSE examination department is continuously working to improve every aspect of the process, from designing model question papers to ensuring secure transportation of actual exam materials,” he stated, while extending his best wishes to students.

Enhanced Security Through CCTV Surveillance

CBSE Controller of Examination, Sanyam Bhardwaj, confirmed that all exam centres will be equipped with CCTV cameras to prevent malpractices.

  • Each examination room will accommodate 24 students, monitored by two invigilators.
  • Assistant superintendents will oversee CCTV surveillance for every 10 rooms.
  • Any instances of malpractice will be reported immediately, and strict action will be taken against those involved.
  • Schools failing to provide CCTV footage upon request will be considered complicit in unfair practices.

Streamlined Mark Verification and Re-evaluation

CBSE has introduced an updated marks verification system, enabling students to request photocopies of their answer sheets to review potential errors. Based on their findings, candidates can apply for mark verification or re-evaluation.

The Class 10 board exams will conclude on March 18, while Class 12 examinations will end on April 4.
