PM Modi Co-Chairs AI Action Summit in France, Emphasizes Global Collaboration and Ethical AI Development

Paris, France – Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, highlighting the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in the 21st century. Addressing an audience that included U.S. Vice President JD Vance and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, PM Modi underscored AI’s rapid evolution and the necessity for a collective global framework to govern its growth responsibly.

“AI is developing at an unprecedented scale and speed, with its adoption and deployment accelerating globally. As nations grow increasingly interdependent, it is imperative to establish governance frameworks and standards that uphold our shared values, address risks, and foster trust,” he stated.

Explaining AI’s practical applications, the Prime Minister illustrated how an AI-powered healthcare app could simplify medical recommendations by removing technical jargon. However, he also acknowledged AI’s limitations, citing how an AI model might misinterpret contextual prompts, such as drawing a right-handed writer when asked for an image of a left-handed one.

Expressing both optimism and caution, PM Modi noted that AI is already reshaping economies, security frameworks, and societies. “Governance should not merely focus on mitigating risks but also on promoting innovation and ensuring that AI serves the global good,” he emphasized.

AI for Global Development: Ensuring Inclusivity and Accessibility

PM Modi stressed the importance of democratizing AI to ensure equitable access, particularly for the Global South. He highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionize key sectors such as healthcare and agriculture, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. “By pooling resources and talent, developing open-source AI systems, and eliminating biases from datasets, we can ensure that AI-driven innovation benefits all of humanity,” he said.

Tackling Disinformation, Deepfakes, and Cybersecurity Threats

Acknowledging the challenges posed by AI, including cybersecurity threats, disinformation, and deepfakes, the Prime Minister called for the development of people-centric applications. “Technology must be rooted in local ecosystems to maximize its effectiveness and utility,” he stated, adding that AI’s high energy consumption necessitates sustainable power solutions to drive inclusive growth.

The Future of Work: AI’s Impact on Employment

Addressing concerns about AI’s impact on employment, PM Modi reassured that while AI may disrupt traditional job structures, it will also create new opportunities. “History has shown that technology does not eliminate jobs but rather transforms them. The key lies in investing in upskilling and reskilling our workforce to adapt to an AI-driven future,” he said.

India’s Leadership in AI and Digital Public Infrastructure

PM Modi showcased India’s success in developing a robust digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at minimal cost. He highlighted India’s leadership in AI adoption, data privacy solutions, and its commitment to building indigenous large language models. “India has one of the world’s largest AI talent pools and a unique public-private partnership model that ensures affordable access to computing resources for startups and researchers,” he noted.

Under India’s G20 presidency, global consensus was reached on harnessing AI responsibly. “India is ready to share its expertise and experience to ensure that AI serves the collective good of humanity,” PM Modi affirmed.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister reflected on the dawn of the AI age and humanity’s role in shaping its trajectory. “While AI will define the future, only humans hold the key to our shared destiny. Our sense of responsibility must guide us forward,” he stated.
