Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai on the sidelines of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in Paris, where they discussed the transformative potential of AI in India. Their conversation focused on the vast opportunities AI presents and ways in which Google can collaborate with India to drive the nation’s digital transformation.
Pichai, the Indian-origin CEO of Alphabet Inc., shared insights on Google’s role in advancing India’s digital ecosystem. “Delighted to meet with PM @narendramodi today while in Paris for the AI Action Summit. We discussed the incredible opportunities AI will bring to India and ways we can work closely together on India’s digital transformation," he posted on X, along with pictures from the meeting.
This marks the second meeting between Modi and Pichai in less than a year, following their last discussion in September 2024 in New York, when the Prime Minister visited the United States for the Quad Leaders' Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit’s plenary session alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. Addressing the gathering, Modi underscored the need for a global AI framework rooted in open-source principles to ensure trust, transparency, and freedom from biases.
Highlighting AI’s profound impact on governance, the economy, security, and society, Modi emphasized the importance of localizing AI applications to maximize their effectiveness.
“We are at the dawn of the AI age that will shape the course of humanity,” he stated, reinforcing India’s commitment to leveraging AI for inclusive growth and innovation.
