With deep sorrow, the family of George Edward Foreman Sr. announces his peaceful passing on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A revered preacher, devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Foreman lived a life defined by faith, humility, and purpose.
Beyond his personal life, Foreman was a humanitarian, an Olympian, and a two-time heavyweight champion of the world. His discipline, conviction, and unwavering commitment to preserving his legacy earned him immense respect. A true force for good, he fought not only in the ring but also for the values he held dear.
The family expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers and kindly requests privacy as they honor the extraordinary life of the man they were privileged to call their own.
A Storied Career in Boxing
Foreman first rose to prominence by winning a gold medal in boxing at the 1968 Olympic Games. His dominance continued into the professional ranks, where he captured the heavyweight championship in 1973 with a decisive victory over Joe Frazier. However, his reign was short-lived as he lost the title a year later in the legendary Rumble in the Jungle against Muhammad Ali in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
Remarkably, Foreman staged one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, reclaiming the heavyweight title in 1994 at the age of 45 with a knockout victory over Michael Moorer. This made him the oldest heavyweight champion in boxing history at the time.
He retired in 1997 with an extraordinary record of 76 wins (68 by knockout) and just five losses, leaving behind a legacy as one of the sport’s most formidable and beloved figures.
