Hurriyat-Linked Groups Abandon Separatism, Amit Shah Hails 'Significant Victory' for Modi's Vision

New Delhi, March 25, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday welcomed the decision of two Hurriyat-affiliated organizations to sever ties with separatism in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “significant victory” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and united India.

The development marks a major shift in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, as the two organizations, previously aligned with the separatist Hurriyat Conference, announced their decision to part ways with the movement.

Taking to social media platform 'X,' Shah asserted that separatism in Kashmir is now a thing of the past. “Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K. Two organizations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism,” Shah posted.

Expressing optimism over the decision, Shah added, “I welcome this step towards strengthening Bharat’s unity and urge all such groups to come forward and shed separatism once and for all. It is a big victory for PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of building a developed, peaceful, and unified Bharat.”

Changing Political Dynamics in J&K

The decision by these Hurriyat-linked groups is seen as a reflection of the evolving political atmosphere in the Union Territory. In recent years, the Modi government has undertaken a series of measures aimed at curbing separatist activities, including strict enforcement of anti-terror laws, dismantling financial networks that supported insurgency, and implementing socio-economic reforms to integrate the region with the rest of the country.

Officials view this development as a crucial step toward further peace and stability in the region. The government has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to fostering economic growth and social harmony in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Broader Implications

Political analysts suggest that the move by the Hurriyat-affiliated groups could pave the way for greater mainstream participation in the democratic and developmental processes of Jammu and Kashmir. It also signals a growing realization among various factions that a separatist agenda no longer holds relevance in the current socio-political climate.

With the ongoing push for normalization, the government is expected to continue its efforts to encourage dialogue, strengthen governance, and promote economic opportunities in the region. The decision of these two groups to renounce separatism could serve as a precedent for others who have been reluctant to embrace change.

As Jammu and Kashmir transitions into a new phase of political and social integration, the latest development stands as a testament to the changing tides in the valley—one that aligns with the vision of a unified and progressive India.
