Bastar (Chhattisgarh), March 20, 2025 – In a significant counter-insurgency operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur and Kanker districts neutralized 30 Naxalites and seized a large cache of firearms, Bastar Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking to ANI, IG Sundarraj detailed the outcomes of two separate encounters. “Operations were conducted today across various areas of Bastar district. In the Bijapur-Dantewada border region, security forces recovered the bodies of 26 Naxalites,” he stated.
Weapons Seized, One Security Personnel Killed
A substantial stockpile of AK-47 rifles, automatic, and semi-automatic weapons was recovered from the encounter sites. However, the operation also resulted in the loss of a Bijapur District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel, Raju Oyyami, who succumbed to injuries sustained in the encounter.
Addressing another firefight near the Kanker-Narayanpur border, IG Sundarraj reported that four Naxalites were killed during the exchange of gunfire. “Their bodies were recovered during subsequent search operations, and security forces are continuing combing efforts in the area,” he added.
Government's Response and Condolences
Earlier in the day, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma expressed condolences over the death of the DRG jawan and acknowledged the security forces' determination and sacrifice.
"Search operations have been ongoing in the Gangaloor area between Bijapur and Dantewada. One of our brave DRG personnel lost his life in the line of duty. The entire government stands in solidarity with his family during this difficult time," Sharma stated.
The Deputy CM further praised the relentless efforts of security personnel, saying, "I congratulate the jawans of Bastar and the entire Bijapur team. Their courage and dedication have led to this remarkable success. In addition to the Bijapur operation, search efforts are also underway in Kanker."
Ongoing Anti-Naxal Operations
The Bijapur encounter erupted early Thursday morning when security forces launched a search operation in the dense forested region. A separate operation in Kanker resulted in another encounter, leading to the elimination of four Naxalites near a village.
As search efforts continue across multiple districts, security forces remain on high alert, reinforcing their commitment to neutralizing Naxalite threats in the region.
