Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he plans to engage in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, with a primary focus on seeking an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during a late-night return flight from Florida, Trump emphasized the progress made over the weekend. “I’ll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work has been done,” he stated. “We want to see if we can bring that war to an end. Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think we have a very good chance.”
The U.S. President is working to secure Russia’s agreement on a 30-day ceasefire proposal, which Ukraine accepted last week. The diplomatic efforts come as both sides continue intense aerial strikes, while Russian forces advance toward displacing Ukrainian troops from their strategic foothold in the western Russian region of Kursk.
When asked about potential concessions, Trump acknowledged that discussions would cover territorial divisions and infrastructure considerations. “We will be talking about land. We will be talking about power plants,” he remarked. “I believe both sides—Ukraine and Russia—have already discussed much of it. We are already in talks about the division of certain assets.”
Meanwhile, U.S. officials expressed optimism on Sunday regarding the prospects of a ceasefire agreement, suggesting that a resolution could be reached within weeks. With high-level negotiations now imminent, the international community watches closely as Trump and Putin prepare for a crucial dialogue on the future of the conflict.
