DUBLIN, Ireland — Irish police were left scratching their heads near Dublin Airport after pulling over a motorist driving with a completely shattered front windscreen, only to be told that the heavy destruction was caused by a bird.
Officers attached to An Garda Síochána spotted the heavily damaged vehicle during a routine patrol close to the capital's airport. Upon questioning the driver about the catastrophic state of the glass, the motorist offered a bizarre excuse, insisting that a bird had flown into the car and caused the massive collapse.
Unamused by the explanation, Gardaí quipped on social media: "When Gardaí asked what happened, the driver claimed a bird was responsible for the heavy damage – must have been some bird!"
Compound Infractions Lead to Vehicle Seizure
The avian alibi quickly fell apart when officers checked the driver's credentials. Beyond operating a dangerously compromised vehicle with severely impaired visibility, it was revealed that the motorist was an unaccompanied learner driver.
Because learner drivers in Ireland are legally required to be accompanied by a qualified driver at all times, officers seized the automobile on the spot.
The incident drew widespread amusement online, with social media users joking about the hypothetical size of local wildlife—suggesting everything from "Big Bird" to seagulls "on steroids". Meanwhile, Gardaí confirmed that formal legal proceedings under road traffic regulations are now underway against the driver.
