Srinagar – Cross-border firing was reported from the Pakistan side along the Line of Control (LoC), according to defence sources on Friday, as security forces in Jammu and Kashmir continue counter-terrorism operations across the region.
In a separate development, a gunfight erupted in the Bandipora district of north Kashmir, where security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Kulnar Bazipora area following intelligence inputs indicating the presence of armed militants. The operation escalated into a full-fledged encounter after the suspects opened fire on the advancing troops.
Meanwhile, the Army on Thursday confirmed the loss of a Special Forces soldier in a separate encounter in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur district. That operation was also initiated on the basis of credible information regarding terrorist movement in the region.
These developments follow closely on the heels of a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives earlier this week, raising fresh concerns over the security environment in the Union Territory.
Security officials have intensified surveillance and operations across multiple districts, stressing that anti-terror activities will continue unabated to ensure civilian safety and regional stability.
