NOIDA,– Authorities in Greater Noida have arrested a 40-year-old man, Amit Sharma, on charges of animal cruelty following an alleged assault on a German Shepherd, owned by his neighbor, in the Dankaur area. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, reportedly stemmed from the dog barking at Sharma’s son, causing the child to fall after becoming frightened.
According to police reports, Sharma, a local medical shop owner, responded by attacking the dog with a stick. In a further act of aggression, he allegedly tied the animal to his Scorpio vehicle and dragged it for approximately 10 to 12 kilometers, resulting in severe injuries to the dog. The complainant, Sudhir Indoria, the dog’s owner, stated that his pet was tethered to his gate when Sharma’s son provoked the animal by throwing a stone, prompting the dog to react.
Indoria reported that Sharma later confronted the dog, assaulted it, and subsequently dragged it behind his vehicle. “The accused left the critically injured dog at our gate and fled,” Indoria said. “Despite his threats against filing a complaint, I immediately sought medical treatment for my pet, which remains under veterinary care.”
Following Indoria’s formal complaint, Sharma was apprehended on Friday afternoon. An FIR has been registered against him under applicable provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, confirmed Station House Officer Munendra Singh of Dankaur Police Station. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to address this disturbing case of animal cruelty.
