The Consulate General of India in Toronto expresses profound sorrow following the tragic death of Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old Indian student at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. On Wednesday evening, Ms. Randhawa was fatally struck by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop en route to work, in what Hamilton Police are investigating as a homicide.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Upper James and South Bend Road in Hamilton. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Ms. Randhawa with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite being rushed to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. The Consulate General noted, “As per local police, she was an innocent victim, caught in a shooting incident involving two vehicles. We are in close contact with her family, providing all necessary assistance, and extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.”
Hamilton Police investigations, supported by video footage, indicate that a passenger in a black vehicle fired at a white sedan, with both vehicles fleeing the scene shortly after. The gunfire also penetrated the rear window of a nearby residence, narrowly missing occupants watching television. No additional injuries were reported.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance, requesting dashcam or security camera footage from the area between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on the evening of the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Hamilton Police to aid the ongoing investigation.
