“This is not just an attack on innocent tourists, it is an attack on humanity and our collective values,” the Prime Minister stated, as the government outlined a raft of measures in response to the April 22 assault.
Diplomatic Retaliation: Indus Waters Treaty Suspended
On Wednesday, the Government of India took the unprecedented step of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, citing Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism and repeated procedural violations of the treaty’s provisions. “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Terrorism is an enemy of humanity. We fully stand with our Honourable Prime Minister and the entire country in this decisive battle against terrorism.”
Ambani also announced that Reliance Foundation’s H.N. Hospital in Mumbai would provide free treatment to those injured.
Shops near Delhi’s Jama Masjid are expected to close on Friday in a show of unity during Jumma prayers. Meanwhile, security measures have been intensified across the country, with the Meghalaya government instructing agencies to bolster vigilance along the Bangladesh border.

Meanwhile, former RAW chief Vikram Sood commented on broader strategic implications, suggesting that PM Modi’s reference to retrieving “what is ours” may signal a more assertive stance toward Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. “It’s the strongest indication yet that New Delhi is ready to redraw the strategic map,” Sood said, cautioning that such a move would come with significant challenges.
