Porbandar, India, April 14, 2025 – In a meticulously coordinated overnight operation on April 12-13, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in collaboration with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), seized approximately 300 kilograms of narcotics valued at Rs 1,800 crore in an anti-narcotics mission at sea. The operation, conducted off the North Maharashtra-South Gujarat coast, exemplifies the strength of inter-agency synergy in combating illicit maritime activities.
Acting on precise intelligence provided by the Gujarat ATS, an ICG vessel, deployed for multi-mission operations under the Coast Guard Region (West), intercepted an attempted narcotics transshipment near the notional International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The ICG ship swiftly identified a suspect boat in pitch-dark conditions, prompting the perpetrators to jettison their consignment into the sea and flee toward the IMBL.
The ICG responded decisively, deploying a sea boat to recover the discarded narcotics while initiating a high-speed pursuit of the suspect vessel. Despite the chase, the suspect boat’s proximity to the IMBL and its head start enabled it to cross the boundary, evading apprehension. Meanwhile, the ICG sea boat team, navigating challenging nighttime conditions, successfully retrieved the substantial narcotics haul after a thorough search.
The seized consignment has been transported to Porbandar for detailed investigation. This operation marks the 13th successful joint law enforcement mission between the ICG and ATS in recent years, underscoring their effective collaboration in advancing national security objectives. The Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment to curbing narcotics trafficking in India’s maritime domain.
