Bengaluru, April 18, 2025: A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Bengaluru City Police after a video reel showing him seated in an office chair in the middle of a busy road while sipping tea went viral on social media. The stunt, which caused a public safety hazard, was filmed amid active traffic, drawing widespread attention and concern.
The accused, identified as Prashanth—also known by his online aliases “Prasha” and “Simbu”—is a goods vehicle driver residing in Nandini Layout near Kanteerava Studio on Tumakuru Road. He regularly operates his vehicle along Silver Jubilee Park Road (SJP Road), where he is known to frequently record social media reels on public roads and footpaths. The video in question, uploaded to his Instagram account simbu_star_143 on April 12, quickly gained traction across platforms. In the footage, Prashanth is seen nonchalantly sipping tea while seated on a chair in the middle of traffic, obstructing vehicles and endangering commuters.
The reel came to the attention of the Social Media Monitoring Cell at the Bengaluru Commissioner of Police’s office. The clip was flagged for endangering public safety and disrupting traffic flow. Authorities alerted the local SJ Park police station, which initiated an inquiry and registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) against the individual.
Initial confusion arose when some mistook Prashanth for a supporting actor from a successful Kannada film released in 2024. However, after verifying his Instagram activity and identity, the police traced and apprehended him on April 16. An FIR was subsequently filed under Section 270 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to public nuisance.
According to a senior police officer, Prashanth was arrested and later released on station bail. Authorities confirmed that a chargesheet will be submitted, and, subject to the court’s judgment, Prashanth could face a fine of up to ₹5,000.
Prashanth, a social media enthusiast with a keen interest in dance and video content creation, has posted hundreds of reels, several of which feature performances on busy streets, including SJP Road. In previous videos, he can be seen dancing in the middle of the road, posing risks to both himself and unsuspecting motorists.
Following the FIR, Prashanth removed the controversial video and issued a verbal assurance that he would abstain from filming such content on public roads in the future. He claimed he was unaware of the legal consequences of his actions and expressed regret for the stunt.
City police officials reiterated the importance of responsible social media usage and warned that such reckless behavior would not be tolerated, particularly when it endangers public safety.
