Telangana Secures ₹1,000 Crore Investment from Japan’s Marubeni Corporation on Day One of Japan Tour

Hyderabad/Tokyo, April 18, 2025: In a major boost to Telangana’s industrial and investment ambitions, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the first day of his official visit to Japan announced that Tokyo-based Marubeni Corporation has committed an initial investment of ₹1,000 crore for the development of a next-generation industrial park in Hyderabad’s proposed ‘Future City’.

The investment was formalized through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed between the Telangana government and Marubeni Corporation—a prominent Japanese conglomerate with operations spanning 65 countries and over 410 group companies. The agreement marks a significant milestone in Telangana’s efforts to position itself as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and sustainable urban development.

As per the agreement, the industrial park will be developed in phases across 600 acres in ‘Future City’, envisioned as India’s first net-zero city. The park is expected to attract further investments of over ₹5,000 crore from Japanese and other global companies setting up manufacturing units in sectors such as electronics, green pharma, precision engineering, aerospace, and defence.

Speaking after the signing, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said, “The Marubeni industrial park will be one of the first anchor developments in Future City and is projected to generate over 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. This initiative not only strengthens Telangana’s industrial capabilities but also contributes meaningfully to our skilled employment ecosystem.”

Reiterating the state’s commitment to ease of doing business, the Chief Minister assured Marubeni of full personal and institutional support, stating, “We are honoured to welcome Marubeni as a marquee investor. With the warmth of India-Japan relations, I am confident you will find a second home in Telangana.”

Dai Sakakura, Chief Operating Officer of Marubeni’s Next Generation Business Division, expressed enthusiasm following the discussions, saying, “We are inspired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision for Telangana and Hyderabad, and are excited to be among the earliest to explore opportunities in this dynamic state.”

Marubeni Corporation operates across diverse sectors including energy, metals and mining, real estate, finance, aerospace, and food and agriculture, and employs over 50,000 people globally.

Later in the day, the Telangana delegation visited the headquarters of Sony Corporation in Tokyo. The team held extensive discussions with executives from Sony and its subsidiary Crunchyroll, focusing on potential collaborations in animation, VFX, and gaming. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also outlined plans to develop a modern film city in Hyderabad, with comprehensive end-to-end production capabilities.

The seven-day Japan tour, scheduled from April 16 to 22, aims to attract strategic investments and technological partnerships that align with Telangana’s long-term vision for innovation-driven growth.
