Amid escalating tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has stirred fresh controversy by claiming that Trump’s name appears in unsealed documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Musk made the allegation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that this could be the real reason behind delays in the public release of the full Epstein files.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT,” Musk posted.
In a follow-up message, he added,
“Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Democrats Call for Full Disclosure
Musk's claims quickly reignited political debate, with leading Democrats urging the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate the allegations and move toward declassifying all remaining Epstein-related documents. According to Axios, House Democrats have formally requested a review of Musk’s statement and renewed demands for transparency.
This development comes against the backdrop of a high-profile fallout between Musk and Trump. Once seen as politically aligned, the two have publicly exchanged sharp insults in recent months, culminating in a clash over federal contracts.
Epstein Case: High-Profile Names and Unsealed Records
Jeffrey Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender, died in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His connections to powerful figures—among them former U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew—have long fueled public interest and calls for full disclosure of related records.
Court filings and flight logs have listed various prominent individuals, though inclusion does not necessarily imply criminal wrongdoing. As The Hill previously reported, these records have been the subject of ongoing legal battles and public scrutiny.
Trump’s Past Statements and Current Denials
In earlier remarks ahead of his 2024 re-election campaign, President Trump stated he had "no problem" releasing the Epstein files. However, he has consistently denied any involvement with Epstein’s alleged activities.
In a recent post on X, Trump wrote:
“I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island. Strong Laws ought to be developed against A.I. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future.”
SpaceX Fallout and Federal Contract Dispute
The controversy deepened after Musk’s allegations came just minutes after Trump reportedly threatened to cancel federal contracts involving Musk’s companies. In response, Musk announced that SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately, describing it as a reaction to the administration’s move against Tesla and SpaceX.
The situation continues to evolve as pressure mounts for the full release of the Epstein files—documents that could have profound political and legal ramifications in the months leading up to the U.S. presidential election.
