Reykjavik, June 17 – A French woman in her late 50s has been arrested in Iceland following the discovery of her husband and daughter fatally stabbed in their hotel room in downtown Reykjavik. The family, all French nationals, had been residing in Ireland in recent years.
According to reports from RTÉ News, the trio had travelled from Dublin to Reykjavik on Saturday, June 7, and were due to return on Saturday, June 14—the day the two bodies were found.
Local police were alerted at 7:14 a.m. local time (8:14 a.m. Irish time) by a hotel staff member who reported that "an incident had occurred" at a hotel near Reykjavik’s harbour. While no specific details were provided during the call, the nature of the report prompted an urgent police response. A spokesperson for the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police described the situation as “clearly very serious.”
The incident took place at the Edition Hotel, according to RÚV, Iceland’s national broadcaster. Authorities discovered the bodies of the man, also in his late 50s, and their daughter, believed to be in her early 30s, in a fourth-floor room. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds.
The woman, who was found at the scene with serious stab injuries, was taken to LandspÃtali University Hospital in Reykjavik for treatment. She has since appeared before the Reykjavik District Court, where she was remanded in custody until Friday, June 20. Authorities noted that the detention period may be extended, though no formal charges have yet been announced.
The French Embassy in Iceland has been notified, while police stated that, at this stage, there has been no communication with the Irish Consulate, as the family held only French citizenship despite residing in Ireland.
Icelandic authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with further updates expected in the coming days.
