In a sharp escalation of rhetoric and regional tensions, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a direct and incendiary warning to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declaring that “Tehran will burn” if missile attacks on Israeli territory continue.
In an official statement released Saturday, Katz accused Khamenei of endangering his own citizens by provoking a conflict with Israel.
“The Iranian dictator is taking the citizens of Iran hostage, bringing about a reality in which they, and especially Tehran’s residents, will pay a heavy price for the flagrant harm inflicted upon Israel’s citizens,” Katz stated.
“If Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front, Tehran will burn.”
The warning follows a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks on Israeli cities, prompting fears of full-scale war. Iran has also cautioned Western powers—specifically the United States, the United Kingdom, and France—against interfering with its ongoing military actions against Israel, threatening retaliation against their regional bases.
Meanwhile, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)—a China-led bloc comprising ten Eurasian states—strongly condemned Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian territory. In an official communique, the SCO accused Israel of violating international law and the UN Charter.
“These strikes targeted civilian and nuclear infrastructure, causing civilian casualties. This constitutes a serious breach of Iran’s sovereignty and endangers both regional and international stability,” the statement read, as reported by Reuters.
The condemnation from the SCO underscores growing international alarm over the spiraling conflict and its implications for global security. With both sides trading direct threats and military action, calls for de-escalation have intensified amid rising fears of a broader regional war.
