Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued a grave warning from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, urging members of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to hold Pakistan Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, directly accountable should anything untoward happen to him while in custody.
The 72-year-old former cricketer, who has been incarcerated since August 2023 in connection with multiple legal cases, made the statement through a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter). In it, Khan alleged a sharp deterioration in his treatment and that of his wife, Bushra Bibi, stating that their basic rights as prisoners have been systematically stripped away.
“In recent days, the harsh treatment I face in jail has intensified. The same applies to my wife, Bushra Bibi. Even the television in her cell has been switched off. All basic rights — both human and legal — have been suspended for both of us,” Khan wrote.
He further claimed that he is being subjected to conditions worse than those imposed on convicted terrorists, drawing comparisons with a military officer serving a murder sentence who, he alleged, is receiving VIP treatment within the same facility.
Imran Khan’s statement has sparked renewed concerns over his safety and the political climate in Pakistan, where tensions between the former premier and the military establishment have continued to escalate since his ouster from power in 2022.
