Riverdance to Light Up 'Up for the Match' Ahead of Historic Cork-Tipp Final

Hosted by Des Cahill and Jacqui Hurley, the beloved programme will air live ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final between Cork and Tipperary—marking the first time these two counties face off in a final, adding to the sense of occasion.

“I've been presenting Up for the Match for over 20 years now, and it never gets old. It’s something I look forward to every single time,” said Des Cahill. “The buzz, the craic, the last-minute nerves – it’s become a bit of a cultural phenomenon. For GAA fans, it’s the only place to be. It’s like Christmas Eve Mass the night before the big event – but with more banter and a lot more jerseys!”

Co-host Jacqui Hurley added, “I’ve been counting down the days to Up for the Match. It always feels extra special when your own county is involved, and there’s a lot of emotion tied into Cork’s story this year. A first-ever All-Ireland final between Cork and Tipp? That’s something truly special—and I’ve no doubt both sets of fans will bring the craic on Saturday night.”

The show promises a vibrant celebration of Irish culture, sport, and music. Riverdance will open the programme with an exhilarating performance that is sure to set the tone for the weekend’s festivities.

On the ground in Tipperary, Marty Morrissey visits Loughmore-Castleiney to meet the family, friends, and clubmates of the iconic McGrath brothers, while in Cork, Anna Geary connects with loyal supporters from Blarney GAA, home to star players Mark Coleman, Shane Barrett, and Pádraig Power.

Back in the studio, hurling legends including Seánie McGrath, Lar Corbett, and Brian Corcoran will share their expert analysis and cherished memories in the lead-up to what promises to be a historic final.

“It wouldn’t be Up for the Match without a few familiar faces,” RTE added. “2FM’s Carl Mullan, Roz Purcell, and Aisling Bonner join Kerry’s Billy Keane, Paralympian Ellen Keane, and Olympian Nadia Power to reflect on their favourite All-Ireland moments.”

Musical highlights will include performances by rising Irish trad band Ceol, along with surprise musical tributes representing both Cork and Tipperary.

As excitement builds, Up for the Match offers a heartfelt, high-energy celebration for fans across the nation, capturing the true spirit of the GAA on the eve of one of its most memorable finals.
