A 21-month-old girl from Germany has tragically died following a fall at the Aquagan waterpark in Lopar, Croatia. The incident occurred when the toddler reportedly slipped from her father's arms while descending a slide and fell from a height of approximately 3.5 metres onto a concrete surface.
Despite being airlifted to the Rijeka Clinical Hospital Centre and receiving immediate medical attention, the child succumbed to severe brain trauma and internal injuries. Hospital officials confirmed that multiple medical interventions were performed, but the injuries proved fatal, and the child passed away in the early hours of the following morning.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a sudden commotion at the waterpark, prompting an urgent response from staff and emergency services. A Slovenian doctor, who happened to be present, provided initial care before the child was airlifted. One guest recounted: “We heard shouting and crying and feared a drowning. Then we saw a man carrying a child, visibly in distress.”
Zdenko Jakuc, the Mayor of Lopar, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “It is an understatement to say we are all deeply shaken. When the helicopter arrived, everything came to a standstill. We looked up, hoping for the best,” he said. The mayor noted that this is believed to be the first major incident at the waterpark in over two decades.
A spokesperson for the Lopar Tourist Board also conveyed condolences, stating: “This park has been operating safely for years, and nothing of this nature has ever occurred. Lopar is regarded as a peaceful, family-friendly destination, and this tragedy has left the entire community in mourning.”
