Palakkad: BJP state vice president C. Krishnakumar has strongly refuted the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him, calling them “baseless and politically motivated.” Addressing a press conference in Palakkad, Krishnakumar said he would be filing a defamation case in response.
Taking a swipe at opposition leaders, he ridiculed the complaint as a “damp firecracker,” referencing earlier statements by Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan, who had hinted at a “big bombshell” against the BJP.
Property Dispute Angle
Krishnakumar claimed the allegations were linked to a property dispute within the complainant’s family. He alleged that the complainant, who had married outside her religion in 2010, fabricated the case to strengthen an earlier dispute related to a will.
According to him, the same charges had surfaced during the 2015 municipal elections when he contested, and again in 2020 when his wife ran for office. “The police investigated the matter and the court dismissed it. Even the media ignored it then, knowing it was a false case,” he said. He further alleged that the current revival of the complaint was being orchestrated by a former BJP insider who has since joined the Congress.
‘Diversion from Rahul Mankootathil Case’
The BJP leader claimed the renewed allegations were aimed at diverting attention from the controversy surrounding Youth Congress leader Rahul Mankootathil. “This is the same firecracker that failed to explode in 2015 and 2020. Even now, it will not explode. Whatever accusations come, the BJP will not step back from the struggle against Rahul,” he declared.
Party Leaders Rally Behind Krishnakumar
Several BJP leaders came forward to defend Krishnakumar.
-
Shanku T. Das wrote on Facebook that the complaint was “a property dispute between sisters which the court had already dismissed as false.” He mocked the Opposition’s claim of a “bombshell” as nothing more than a “damp cracker.”
-
Sandeep Vachaspathi criticized LoP Satheesan, saying: “Shouldn’t the Leader of Opposition at least know the difference between a bomb and a firecracker? This case was dismissed by court in 2023, yet it is being paraded as new evidence.”
-
Yuvaraj Gokul, in a pointed jibe at former BJP leader Sandeep Warrier, who recently joined Congress, said: “Satheesan has tied up a donkey in his stable thinking it is a prized bull. He will realize the truth only later—if he survives politically until then.”
Background of the Complaint
Earlier, a woman had submitted complaints to BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, senior RSS functionaries, and party leaders V. Muraleedharan and M.T. Ramesh, alleging that she had faced harassment from Krishnakumar years ago. She alleged that despite repeated petitions, no action was taken.
