Ahmedabad was shaken by a shocking incident on Tuesday (August 19), when a Class 10 student at a private school was fatally stabbed by a junior from Class 8 following a heated altercation. The tragedy unfolded at Seventh Day School in the city’s Khokhara area, where what began as a minor scuffle reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to preliminary investigations, the dispute began when one student allegedly brushed against the other with his elbow while descending the school stairs. The argument quickly intensified, culminating in one boy stabbing the other with a knife. The injured student was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police later detained the accused and registered a case.
The incident has sparked outrage across the city. On Wednesday morning, hundreds of people—including the victim’s family, parents of other students, and members of the Sindhi community—gathered at the school premises, demanding strict action against the administration and accountability for the lapse in student safety.
Adding to the shock, investigators uncovered a disturbing chat exchange between the accused and a friend shortly after the crime. The conversation reveals the boy not only admitted to the stabbing but also showed a chilling lack of remorse.
Excerpt from the chat accessed by police:
-
Friend: Bhai, did you do something today?
-
Accused: Yes.
-
Friend: Did you stab someone?
-
Accused: Who told you?
-
Friend: He (the victim) has died.
-
Accused: Tell him (the common acquaintance) that I killed him. He knows me—tell him right now.
-
Friend: You can’t stab someone to death for this… you could have just beaten him up, not killed him.
-
Accused: Whatever happened has happened now.
The accused, in the chat, admitted that the confrontation began when the victim questioned him aggressively, saying: “Who are you and what will you do?” The exchange further revealed the accused’s friend urging him to stay low and delete the chat, underscoring his awareness of the gravity of the situation.
The brutal killing of a teenager within school premises has triggered widespread concern over student violence, peer aggression, and safety lapses in educational institutions. As the investigation continues, the incident stands as a grim reminder of the urgent need for preventive measures and stronger monitoring mechanisms to safeguard students.
