Essex: 2 expatriate Indian students died and 9 were injured in a car accident in the United Kingdom on Monday.
The incident occurred as students were returning from Ganesh Visarjan celebrations in Essex. According to local reports, a vehicle carrying students collided with another vehicle carrying students on the A130 dual carriageway at the Railay Spur roundabout.
The deceased have been identified as Chaitanya Tare (23) from Nadargul in Hyderabad and Rishiteja Rapolu (21) from Boduppal .
Chaitanya, who had moved to London eight months ago to pursue a master's degree after completing his B.Tech, died on the spot. Rishiteja died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Five students were admitted to the Royal London Hospital in the accident. Among them, Sai Gautam Ravulla (30) is on a ventilator, while another student Nutan Thadikayala is partially paralyzed. The other injured students, Yuva Teja Reddy Gururam, Vamshi Golla and Venkata Sumant Penthiyala, are also undergoing treatment.
The two students, Gopichand Batamekala and Manohar Sabbani, who were driving the cars involved in the accident, have been taken into custody by UK police. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
The tragic news reached families in Hyderabad late on Monday night. Chaitanya's parents, Ailaiah and Mangamma, were devastated to hear the news of their son's death. Although the family was initially told that his condition was critical, the news of his death was confirmed a few hours later.
The grieving families have appealed to the central and state governments to expedite the repatriation of the bodies for the last rites to be performed in Hyderabad.
