Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was caught in a heated exchange with IPS officer Anjali Krishna after she allegedly failed to recognize his voice during a phone call.
“Listen, I am the Deputy Chief Minister and I am ordering you to stop this,” Pawar was heard saying in the call. He reportedly added, “How dare you? I will take action against you. At least you will recognize my face, won’t you?” Following this, Pawar is said to have switched to a video call to confront the officer directly.
The dispute arose during Krishna’s inspection of illegal murum (red soil) excavation linked to a road construction project in Kurdu village, Solapur district. Murum is widely used as a sub-base and filling material in road works. During the inspection, tensions flared between officials and local villagers, prompting NCP worker Baba Jagtap to call Pawar and hand the phone to Krishna, triggering the altercation that is now widely circulated online.
Reacting to the controversy, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare claimed that the video had been deliberately leaked. “Ajit Dada may have chided the IPS officer only to calm party workers. He did not intend to halt the action entirely,” Tatkare said.
Meanwhile, the Kurduwadi police have filed an FIR against 10–15 NCP workers, including Jagtap, for allegedly obstructing a government officer during duty. The case has been registered under Section 9.15 of the Environment Protection Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Sections 132, 189(2), 189(3), 189(5), 303(2), and 3(5).
