New Delhi — Gaganpreet Kaur, the woman accused in the fatal BMW crash in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area, has tested negative for alcohol, indicating she was not under the influence at the time of the accident on Sunday.
Kaur, a resident of Gurugram and wife of businessman Parikshit Makkar, was arrested after her car allegedly rammed into a two-wheeler around 2 p.m. on September 14. The impact pushed the motorcycle into a bus, killing rider Navjot Singh (52), an official with the Ministry of Finance and a resident of Hari Nagar. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, sustained multiple fractures and head injuries and remains hospitalized.
At the time of the incident, Gaganpreet was traveling with her husband, their two children, and a domestic worker. Parikshit Makkar was also injured but discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. A Delhi court has since remanded Gaganpreet to two days’ judicial custody.
The aftermath of the accident has drawn scrutiny. According to the FIR, instead of being taken to a nearby hospital, the victims were transported by Gaganpreet to a healthcare facility located over 19 kilometers away. The family of the deceased alleged further negligence, claiming that Gaganpreet and her husband received medical attention before the critically injured victims.
Investigators have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Kaur under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125B (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
