Democrats Release Epstein Letter Purportedly Signed by Trump, President Denies Involvement

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have released a sexually suggestive letter from a 2003 birthday album for Jeffrey Epstein, purportedly signed by U.S. President Donald Trump—a claim the president has strongly denied.

The letter, framed by a hand-drawn outline of a curvaceous woman, reads: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.” The Wall Street Journal previously described the item as a “bawdy birthday card.”

Mr. Trump insists he had no role in writing the note or creating the drawing, dismissing the allegations as defamatory. He has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, calling its reporting “false, malicious, and defamatory.” “These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures,” he said.

After the letter’s release, White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich posted images of Trump’s authentic signatures on X (formerly Twitter) and tagged News Corp, the Journal’s parent company, writing: “Time for @newscorp to open that checkbook, it’s not his signature. DEFAMATION!”

The disclosure comes amid a bipartisan push in Congress to make public the so-called Epstein files, a trove of records long shrouded in secrecy and speculation. Both Republicans and Democrats, including Vice President JD Vance before taking office, have called for the release.

Epstein, a wealthy financier with powerful connections, died in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges involving dozens of underage girls. His death came more than a decade after he struck a controversial plea deal with prosecutors in Florida.

President Trump’s past ties to Epstein have been widely noted, though he has said their friendship ended two decades ago, claiming he banned Epstein from his Florida club after repeated disputes. The president has not been accused of misconduct in connection with Epstein.

The Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Epstein’s estate for a broad set of records, including his will, financial documents, agreements with prosecutors, and contact books. The Justice Department began turning over files from its Epstein investigation in August.
