Thiruvananthapuram: Former Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Thomas has officially joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a full-time volunteer, participating in the Vijayadashami path march dressed in the traditional saffron attire.
Thomas, who retired from police service and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2021, told media that he views the RSS as a more effective platform for public service. He emphasized that he has no political ambitions and intends to dedicate himself entirely to organizational work.
“I am joining the RSS, which is celebrating its centenary, with a heartfelt commitment to stand united with India,” Thomas said. He added that he has been drawn to the RSS since 1997 and will now align his work with its ideological framework. He also described his decision as a response to allegations of communal bias, asserting that his involvement with the RSS reflects his dedication to national service rather than political motives.
By participating in the Vijayadashami march, Thomas will assume an active role in RSS activities. Previously, he had attended some RSS programs as a guest. During his tenure in the police service, Thomas was widely recognized for his firm stance against corruption.
After joining the BJP in 2021 through JP Nadda’s leadership, he contested the last assembly elections from Irinjalakuda, securing over 33,000 votes. He currently does not hold any official position within the BJP.
