An 18-year-old newlywed woman is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times by an alleged stalker in northeast Delhi’s New Mustafabad. Police said the accused, a 24-year-old man, has been arrested and charged with attempt to murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to investigators, the attack took place near Mangal Bazaar Road on Thursday evening, as the woman was preparing to return to her husband’s home in Ashok Vihar after spending a few days with her family for post-wedding ceremonies. She had been married just 10 days earlier, on August 25.
Family members told police that the accused had been stalking her for the past three to four months and was reportedly angered by her marriage. “My sister was looking forward to starting her new life. She had gone shopping with my sister-in-law for her new home when this happened,” her brother told The Times of India.
The woman sustained severe injuries to her kidneys and intestines and was rushed to GTB Hospital, where she remains on a ventilator. Police said the knife used in the attack has been recovered, and the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Senior officers from Dayalpur police station confirmed that swift action led to the arrest within hours. The case has reignited concerns over women’s safety and stalking-related violence in the capital, where such crimes often escalate to deadly attacks.
