Noida, September 29 — A 29-year-old trainee doctor allegedly died by suicide on Monday after jumping from the 21st floor of a high-rise residential building in Noida Extension, police said.
The deceased, identified as Shiva, was visiting his sister’s residence in Gaur City 2 along with his parents when the incident occurred. According to Additional DCP (Central Noida) Shavya Goyal, Shiva went to the balcony of a 21st-floor flat in the 14th Avenue complex and jumped. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“On Monday, at 14th Avenue, Gaur City 2, under the jurisdiction of Bisrakh Police Station, the man identified as Shiva committed suicide by jumping from the 21st floor. He was taken for treatment but was declared dead by doctors,” Goyal said.
Police said Shiva was a native of Mathura and had enrolled in an MBBS programme at a private medical college in Delhi in 2015. However, he reportedly suspended his training in 2020 after developing mental health issues during the Covid-19 pandemic. The prolonged struggles with depression had caused him considerable distress.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Shiva’s family members were at home when the incident took place. His body has been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
Additional DCP Goyal said the family is cooperating with investigators, and enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances that led to the death.
