Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he intends to file a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times,
following the newspaper’s recent reporting on his alleged links to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The move comes days after Trump threatened legal action over the Times’ coverage of a sexually suggestive note and drawing connected to Epstein. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump declared: “Today, I have the great honor of bringing a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country, becoming a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”
He further alleged that the Times’ endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris amounted to “the single largest illegal campaign contribution, ever,” criticizing the newspaper for placing the endorsement prominently on its front page. Trump accused the outlet of engaging in a decades-long campaign of “lying” about him, his family, his businesses, and Republican-led movements including America First and MAGA.
The president stated that the lawsuit would be filed in Florida but did not provide additional details.
According to Reuters, The New York Times did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
