Dallas, Texas — A day after President Donald Trump vowed strict legal action against the accused in the brutal beheading of Indian-origin motel manager Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) strongly condemned the incident, describing it as “gruesome” and “preventable.”
In a statement posted on X, the DHS shared a close-up image of the accused, 37-year-old Cuban national Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, and wrote: “This vile monster beheaded a man in front of his wife and child and proceeded to kick the victim’s head on the ground. This gruesome, savage slaying… was completely preventable if this criminal illegal alien had not been released into our country by the Biden Administration, since Cuba would not take him back.”
President Trump, writing on Truth Social a day earlier, had expressed outrage over the killing, calling Nagamallaiah a “well-respected person in Dallas” and pledging that the accused would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law on charges of first-degree murder. He also criticized former President Joe Biden, alleging that the administration’s immigration policies had allowed Cobos-Martinez to remain in the United States despite his criminal history.
The horrific crime took place on the morning of September 10 at the Downtown Suites motel in Dallas, where Nagamallaiah, 50, worked as a manager. According to Dallas Police, the attack stemmed from a dispute over a broken washing machine. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Cobos-Martinez, a co-worker with prior arrests for auto theft and assault in Houston, retrieving a machete and pursuing Nagamallaiah. The victim ran toward the motel office, where his wife and 18-year-old son were present, but the assailant carried out the fatal assault despite their desperate attempts to intervene.
Cobos-Martinez was later arrested and charged with capital murder. Authorities confirmed that he is being held without bond.
