Bengaluru: Days after Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw publicly criticized the deteriorating state of Bengaluru's roads, she held meetings with both Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday.
The meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar focused directly on the city's future. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shivakumar confirmed the productive discussion: "It was a pleasure to meet Kiren Majumdar-Shaw, entrepreneur and Founder of Biocon, at my residence today. We had an engaging discussion on Bengaluru’s growth, innovation, and the path ahead for Karnataka’s growth story."
Sources close to the Deputy CM described the interaction as "fruitful." Furthermore, Shivakumar reportedly assured the industry leader that he plans to visit various locations in Bengaluru and consult with industry stakeholders to devise strategies for improving the road situation in the city.
This meeting comes on the heels of Mazumdar-Shaw's viral online query to the Congress-led government, where she asked, "Why are Bengaluru’s roads so bad?" The concern was raised after she hosted a guest from China at her office, sparking a significant debate on social media and among civic groups.
Separate Meeting with Chief Minister
Mazumdar-Shaw also met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his official residence. However, sources from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) clarified that this was a "purely a personal visit." The Biocon chief's primary purpose was to invite the Chief Minister to a family wedding.
According to these sources, there was no discussion regarding infrastructure or road conditions during the interaction. Mazumdar-Shaw also extended her Diwali greetings to CM Siddaramaiah.
