In a shocking incident from Bengaluru, a 34-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her teenage daughter, her boyfriend, and three of his friends in the city’s Uttarahalli area. The gruesome crime, which took place last Saturday under the jurisdiction of the Subramanyapura Police Station, came to light days later following the daughter’s disappearance and the discovery of the woman’s body.
The deceased, identified as Netravathi (34), lived with her teenage daughter in Uttarahalli. According to police reports, the girl had been in a relationship with a young man and frequently brought him home. On the night of the incident, she returned home with her boyfriend, who was later joined by three of his friends.
At around 11 p.m., Netravathi, who had been asleep, woke up and found her daughter with her boyfriend. Angered by what she saw, she reportedly reprimanded the two, leading to a heated argument. The confrontation soon turned violent.
“In a fit of rage, the daughter and the boys overpowered Netravathi, covered her mouth, and during the scuffle, tied a towel around her neck, leading to her death by suffocation,” a police officer said.
Attempt to Stage Suicide
Realizing that Netravathi had died, panic gripped the group. In a desperate attempt to conceal the crime, they allegedly tied a saree around her neck and hung her body from a ceiling fan to make it appear as suicide before locking the house and fleeing the scene.
The truth began to unravel when Netravathi’s elder sister, unable to reach her or her niece over the phone, visited their residence. Looking through a window, she saw Netravathi’s body hanging from the fan and immediately alerted the police.
Initially, the Subramanyapura Police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR), unaware that the death was staged. The body was discovered on Monday morning after local residents noticed suspicious circumstances.
Missing Complaint Leads to Breakthrough
The daughter’s unexplained absence deepened suspicions—she did not even attend her mother’s funeral. On Wednesday, her aunt filed a missing person complaint, prompting the police to trace her whereabouts.
During interrogation, the girl’s boyfriend reportedly confessed, revealing the shocking truth that Netravathi had been murdered and the scene was manipulated to mislead investigators.
Juveniles Taken into Custody
All five accused—the daughter, her boyfriend, and his three friends—have been taken into custody for questioning. Investigators are examining whether the killing was premeditated or a spontaneous act of rage.
Police said further inquiries are underway to determine the full sequence of events and the possible involvement of others in concealing the crime.
