Asia Cup Trophy in UAE Amid Controversy Over ACC President Mohsin Naqvi

Abu Dhabi: The Asia Cup trophy, won by India after their thrilling victory over Pakistan in last week’s final in Dubai, is currently at the headquarters of the UAE Cricket Board in Abu Dhabi,

Officials said the silverware will either be formally shipped to India or handed over to an Indian official in Abu Dhabi, who will then transport it back to the country.

The development comes amid rising tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Sources told News18 that the BCCI is considering pushing for Naqvi’s removal from his ACC role.

Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reportedly left the venue with the Asia Cup trophy and medals, bypassing standard ceremonial protocols. India has lodged objections, stating that the move compromises the integrity of ACC tournaments and undermines the principles of neutrality and fair play.

Officials highlighted that Naqvi’s dual roles present a clear conflict of interest, politicising cricket administration and running contrary to the ACC’s mandate for impartial governance.
