Washington, D.C., October 19, 2025 — Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered across the United States on Saturday for the nationwide ‘No Kings’ protests, voicing opposition to President Donald Trump’s policies and what organizers described as his “authoritarian approach to governance.”
Large rallies were held outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and in New York’s Times Square, with significant turnouts reported in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and Austin. According to Axios, more than 2,700 coordinated events were organized across all 50 states.

Protesters carried placards reading “No kings, no oligarchs” and “I pledge allegiance to no king,” denouncing what they see as the president’s overreach of power. Demonstrators also condemned Trump’s immigration policies and his recent decision to deploy the National Guard to several major cities under the pretext of combating violent crime.
In a statement on the ‘No Kings’ movement website, organizers said:
“The president believes his authority is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings — and we will not back down against chaos, corruption, or cruelty.”
Political Voices Weigh In
Prominent progressive leaders lent their support to the demonstrations. Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the crowd in Washington, saying the protests reflect “a collective will to defend our democracy and our freedoms.”
Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told MSNBC that “peaceful expression of dissent is entirely consistent with the American way,” adding that the demonstrations were a vital exercise of constitutional rights.
Republican leaders, however, dismissed the movement as politically motivated. House Speaker Mike Johnson described the protests as a “hate America rally,” claiming,
“You’ll see Hamas sympathizers, Antifa types, and Marxists on full display.”
Despite the political polarization surrounding the protests, turnout remained largely peaceful nationwide, with police presence reported in most major cities to ensure public safety.
The ‘No Kings’ movement, which began as a grassroots campaign on social media, has rapidly evolved into a broad coalition of civil rights advocates, progressive organizations, and ordinary citizens seeking to challenge what they view as growing executive overreach under President Trump’s administration.
