PM Modi Marks 25 Years in Public Office, Reflects on Journey from Gujarat to the Nation’s Leadership

New Delhi, October 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday commemorated 25 years since taking his first oath as Chief Minister of Gujarat, marking a milestone in his continuous service as the head of government—first in Gujarat and later at the national level.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister shared a throwback photograph from October 7, 2001, the day he first assumed office in Gujarat, alongside an image from his swearing-in ceremony as India’s Prime Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time,” PM Modi wrote.
“Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a government.”

Expressing gratitude to the people of India, he added,

“Through all these years, it has been my constant endeavour to improve the lives of our people and contribute to the progress of this great nation that has nurtured us all.”

From Gujarat to National Leadership

Before being elected as the Prime Minister of India in 2014, Narendra Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from October 2001 to May 2014. His early tenure began under challenging circumstances, as Gujarat was still reeling from the devastating earthquake of January 26, 2001. Under his leadership, the state witnessed a remarkable transformation through focused initiatives in reconstruction, disaster preparedness, and economic development.

During his term as Chief Minister, Modi established India’s first Department of Climate Change, pioneering policies that later shaped India’s stance at the 2015 COP21 Summit in Paris, where he played a significant role in international climate deliberations.

He also introduced evening courts in Gujarat, an innovative measure aimed at improving access to justice and ensuring the timely resolution of citizens’ grievances.

Gujarat – The Cradle of Modi’s Journey

Born in a small town in Gujarat, Narendra Modi rose from humble beginnings. His family, belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, faced economic hardships but instilled in him values of perseverance and compassion.

Modi earned his Master’s degree in Political Science from Gujarat University. His early experiences, witnessing the struggles of ordinary citizens, shaped his lifelong commitment to public service.

His journey in public life began with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a nationalist organisation dedicated to social and community development. Later, he transitioned into active politics through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he rose through the ranks to become one of India’s most prominent political leaders.

A Quarter-Century of Governance

As he enters his 25th year in executive leadership, Prime Minister Modi’s post serves not only as a reflection on his political journey but also as a reaffirmation of his commitment to India’s progress and the welfare of its people.
