New Delhi— Gautam Adani and his family have reclaimed the top position on Forbes India’s 2026 list of the country’s 100 richest people, overtaking Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani after three years.
Adani and his family are estimated to have a combined net worth of $112.7 billion, according to the Forbes ranking. Ambani, who held the top position in the previous rankings, is listed second with a net worth of $86.3 billion.
Savitri Jindal and family, head of the O.P. Jindal Group, rank third with $39.8 billion, followed by ArcelorMittal chairman Lakshmi Mittal with $34.7 billion. Sunil Mittal and family, associated with Bharti Airtel, occupy fifth place with $32.9 billion.
Muthoot family tops among Malayali fortunes
The Muthoot family is the highest-ranked Malayali business family on the Forbes India list, standing at No. 24 nationally with an estimated combined wealth of $9.2 billion.
Among individual Malayali billionaires, M.A. Yusuff Ali, chairman of the Lulu Group, ranks highest. He is placed 47th overall, with an estimated net worth of $5.75 billion.
Jewellery entrepreneur Joy Alukkas follows at No. 52, with an estimated fortune of $5.4 billion.
Other prominent Malayali business figures on the list include Ravi Pillai of RP Group, with $4.1 billion; Sunny Varkey of GEMS Education, with $4 billion; P.N.C. Menon, founder of Sobha Group, with $3.8 billion; and T.S. Kalyanaraman of Kalyan Jewellers, with $3.55 billion.
The 2026 ranking underscores the continuing scale and diversity of India’s billionaire economy, with fortunes spanning infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, finance, retail, jewellery and education.
