Jaipur: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday inaugurated development works worth over ₹100 crore at 65 small and medium-sized railway stations under the North Western Railway zone. The launch event took place in Jaipur, marking another milestone in Indian Railways’ ongoing station modernisation initiative.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vaishnaw said that all decisions under the ministry are being taken with a focus on passenger convenience and comfort.
Station Upgrades and Passenger Facilities
The redevelopment of 65 railway stations aims to enhance infrastructure, passenger amenities, and overall travel experience. These works include platform improvements, upgraded waiting areas, modern signage, and digital information systems.
Introducing ‘Sanganeri Print’ Bedding Covers
In a unique initiative blending local craftsmanship with passenger comfort, Indian Railways will soon introduce bedding covers featuring traditional Indian prints from various states. Jaipur’s famous Sanganeri print will be among the first to be showcased, with covers supplied to trains operating on select routes.
“Passengers have long expressed concerns about the hygiene of railway blankets and covers. To address this, we have launched a pilot project introducing Sanganeri-printed blanket covers, ensuring both cleanliness and cultural appeal,” Vaishnaw said.
He added that, similar to how people use personal covers at home, passengers will now have access to clean, aesthetically designed covers during their journeys.
Pilot Project Begins on Jaipur–Ahmedabad Asarva Train
The initiative will begin with the Jaipur–Ahmedabad Asarva train, starting Thursday. The project will later be extended to other routes, promoting local textile heritage while enhancing the travel experience.
Vaishnaw also highlighted upcoming plans for digital signboards across stations and the renovation of ageing platforms, ensuring accessibility, better information dissemination, and improved passenger convenience.
With these efforts, the Indian Railways continues to balance modernisation with cultural preservation, integrating technology and tradition to redefine passenger comfort across the network.
