Mumbai, Oct. 16: Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his iconic portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s epic television series Mahabharata (1988), passed away on Tuesday at the age of 68.
The news of his demise was confirmed by his long-time friend, colleague, and CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association) member Amit Behl, who described the loss as “deeply personal and immeasurable.”
According to reports, Dheer had been battling cancer for several years. Despite a prolonged fight, his condition reportedly worsened following a relapse a few months ago. He was also scheduled to undergo surgery related to his illness.
The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) issued an official statement expressing condolences:
“With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 p.m. near Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai.”
