Anmol Bishnoi, a key figure in several high-profile organised crime cases and wanted in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, was deported to India from the United States on Wednesday, according to official sources.
Upon arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Bishnoi is expected to be formally arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He faces multiple cases nationwide for allegedly operating major extortion and targeted-killing networks linked to his elder brother and jailed gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi.
Investigators state that Anmol played a central role in coordinating cross-border crime operations — directing shooters, arranging funding channels, issuing threats from overseas and planning assassinations through encrypted digital platforms. All registered cases against him have been consolidated under the NIA’s jurisdiction.
Bishnoi is a prime accused in the killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s Bandra office. Several members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have already been arrested in connection with the murder. Anmol is also wanted for orchestrating the April 2024 firing incident outside the Mumbai residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
Security at IGI Airport was significantly heightened ahead of his arrival. Police teams, assisted by sniffer dogs, carried out extensive checks at Terminal 3, establishing multi-layered security arrangements.
How New U.S. Immigration Rules Enabled Bishnoi’s Return
Senior intelligence officials said Bishnoi’s deportation was made possible by new immigration regulations implemented under U.S. President Donald Trump. Under the revised framework, any illegal immigrant whose asylum or immigration plea is rejected even once is immediately taken into custody — a major shift from the previous Biden-era system, which allowed individuals to file renewed claims and remain free pending lengthy reviews, often delaying deportation for years.
With the new rules, detainees remain in custody while immigration courts fast-track their cases. Deportation timelines, which previously stretched close to a decade, have now been reduced to approximately 18 months.
Anmol Bishnoi was held in U.S. detention for nearly 1.5 years, and officials say his case progressed rapidly due to this accelerated process. Authorities clarified that the policy is uniformly applied to all illegal immigrants irrespective of nationality.
