UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer experienced an awkward moment upon his arrival at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, nearly falling forward as he greeted delegates on Friday.
The summit, held from November 22–23, marks a historic occasion, with South Africa assuming the rotating G20 presidency in December 2024 — the first African nation to lead the forum of major global economies. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stumbled over his own feet as he arrived to meet with senior business leaders in Johannesburg ahead of the G20 summit on Friday (21 November).

Shortly after landing, Starmer approached a group of business leaders when he appeared to trip over his own step, momentarily losing balance as he reached out for a handshake. Video footage shows the prime minister lurching forward with no visible obstruction, before quickly catching himself and avoiding a fall.
This is the second such incident for Starmer in recent weeks. Earlier this month, during his arrival in Brazil for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), he stumbled while descending the aircraft’s metal staircase. On that occasion too, he regained his balance before any serious misstep.
Despite the minor mishaps, the prime minister continues with his scheduled engagements at the summit, where global economic cooperation and development priorities are expected to dominate discussions.
