Massive Cache of Explosives Found Near Uttarakhand School Amid Ongoing National Security Concerns

As the nation reels from the shock of the Delhi Red Fort blast, security concerns have intensified after Almora Police recovered a significant quantity of highly explosive gelatin sticks near a school in Uttarakhand. The discovery has triggered heightened vigilance and a multi-agency investigation across the region.

Large Cache of Explosives Recovered

According to Almora Police, 161 gelatin sticks, weighing over 20 kilograms, were found concealed in bushes near the Government Higher Secondary School in Dabara village, located in the Sult area. The seizure comes at a time when investigators recently uncovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives in Haryana as part of the ongoing probe into the Delhi blast.

The incident came to light when the school’s principal, Subhash Singh, noticed suspicious packets in the vegetation and immediately notified authorities. Two police teams rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area and summoning bomb disposal units and canine squads from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts.

Canine teams conducted an extensive search of the school premises and surrounding farmlands, recovering multiple packets of gelatin sticks—some hidden nearly 20 feet away from the initial discovery point.

Police Register FIR, Launch Multi-Team Investigation

Almora Senior Superintendent of Police Devendra Pincha confirmed the seizure, stating:

“Around 161 gelatin sticks were found near the school. The BDS team conducted an inquiry and searched the entire area. An FIR has been registered under appropriate sections, and further action is ongoing.”

Pincha added that while gelatin sticks are commonly used in road construction and rock blasting, investigators are probing how such a sizable quantity ended up near an educational institution.

A case has been registered against unknown individuals under Section 4(a) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The explosive packets have since been safely sealed and secured.

Four specialised police teams have been constituted to trace the origin, transportation route, and possible intended use of the material.

Heightened Alert Nationwide

The discovery has deepened concerns within national security circles, especially in the backdrop of major explosive recoveries over the past few weeks. Sources suggest that certain terror modules may have been planning coordinated serial blasts across major metropolitan areas, prompting intensified searches in multiple states.

With tensions already high following the Delhi Red Fort blast, authorities are treating the Almora recovery as a potentially crucial lead in uncovering a broader network involved in illegal explosives distribution.

The investigation remains ongoing.
