Coimbatore: Police arrested three men in connection with the recent gang rape case that shocked the city. The arrests were made in the early hours of Tuesday following an intensive manhunt. According to officials, the accused attempted to flee during the operation and were subsequently shot in the leg by police. They were later admitted to a hospital for treatment under police supervision.
The arrests stem from a horrific incident that took place on Sunday night near Brindhavan Nagar, behind the Coimbatore International Airport. A 20-year-old postgraduate student was reportedly abducted and gang-raped after she and her boyfriend were attacked by three unidentified men while sitting in a parked car around 10:30 p.m. The assailants, who arrived on a stolen two-wheeler, allegedly smashed the car’s windshield and assaulted the young man with weapons before abducting the woman.
At around 4:30 a.m., the survivor was found unconscious in a secluded area and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Police later confirmed that she is receiving medical treatment and her condition is stable.
Authorities have reiterated that the survivor’s identity will remain strictly protected in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as police continue to gather evidence and question the accused.
