New Details Emerge in Powai Hostage Case: Filmmaker Rohit Arya Had Planned Movie Mirroring Real-Life Crisis

Mumbai, November 1, 2025 — A day after filmmaker Rohit Arya was shot dead by Mumbai Police following a tense hostage standoff at a Powai studio, startling revelations have surfaced suggesting that Arya had been developing film projects strikingly similar to the events that unfolded.

Veteran Marathi actor Girish Oak confirmed that he had met Arya at RA Studio in Powai just a day before the incident. “A person who had worked with me earlier contacted me on behalf of Arya regarding a new film project,” Oak told Hindustan Times. “I was told he had produced movies before, so I agreed to meet him.”

According to Oak, the meeting on October 29 initially seemed routine. “We discussed a socially relevant film. I noticed many children present in the studio and asked about them. Arya said they were attending a workshop. The kids even took a group photo with me, and some parents clicked selfies. I left around noon,” he recalled.

Adding to the intrigue, actress Ruchita Jadhav revealed on social media that Arya had approached her weeks earlier for a project centered on a hostage situation — an eerie parallel to the real-life event that would later occur.

Ruchita Jadhav’s Chilling Revelation

In a detailed Instagram post, Jadhav wrote, “On October 4, I was contacted by someone named Rohit Arya for a film project. The subject he described involved a hostage crisis. As an actor, I agreed to hear more about it.”

She added that Arya later messaged her to schedule a meeting at a Powai studio between October 27 and 29. “He sent me the location on the 27th and asked if we could meet the next day. I had agreed but had to cancel on the 28th due to a family commitment,” Jadhav explained.

“When the horrifying news broke on October 30 about the same person taking hostages, I was numb,” she wrote. “It’s chilling to think how close I came to being there.”

The Powai Hostage Tragedy

The shocking incident occurred on October 30, 2025, when 50-year-old Arya held 17 children and two adults hostage at RA Studio in the Mahavir Classic building, Powai. The children, aged between 10 and 15, had gathered for a web series audition when Arya suddenly locked the doors and declared them his hostages.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the children’s screams around 1:15 p.m., which alerted nearby residents and prompted a swift police response. Negotiations continued for over an hour, but Arya allegedly refused to surrender, claiming he was owed payment for an educational film he had produced. He also demanded to speak with government officials and threatened to harm the hostages or set the studio ablaze.

A tactical unit from the Mumbai Police Quick Response Team later stormed the premises. Arya was shot during the operation and succumbed to his injuries shortly after. All hostages were safely rescued without any harm.

Investigation Underway

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has since taken over the case to investigate Arya’s motives and psychological condition. Preliminary findings indicate he may have been embroiled in financial disputes connected to his film ventures.

Authorities are now examining whether the planned movie’s storyline was a reflection of Arya’s deteriorating mental state or an unsettling attempt to reenact his cinematic vision in real life.
