Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir — Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, the Indian Army confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Chinar Corps, the operation was launched on Friday following specific intelligence inputs indicating an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran. “On 07 November 2025, based on credible intelligence regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was initiated in the Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops noticed suspicious movement and challenged the infiltrators, who opened indiscriminate fire. Contact was established, and the terrorists were subsequently trapped,” the Army stated in a post on X.
The Army further confirmed that both terrorists were neutralised in the ensuing gunfight. “Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation. A search of the area is in progress,” the statement added. Security personnel continue combing operations to ensure no additional infiltrators remain in the vicinity.
This encounter follows a similar incident on November 5 in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, where security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, engaged terrorists in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Earlier, on October 13, two terrorists were killed in the Kumbakdi forest area of Kupwara during another infiltration attempt near the LoC.
Kupwara district, which lies along the sensitive LoC, has witnessed a surge in infiltration attempts in recent months. With the onset of winter and the impending closure of high-altitude routes due to snowfall, security forces have intensified surveillance and counter-infiltration measures to prevent militants from entering Indian territory.
