Dublin: More than 1,000 taxi drivers in Dublin staged a symbolic protest on Friday by boycotting the Uber app, in opposition to the company’s newly introduced fixed charge system.
The protest, which took place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., saw drivers switching off the Uber app to express their discontent. The demonstration coincided with the highly anticipated rugby match between Japan and Ireland, ensuring maximum visibility for the protest.
Drivers said the move was intended as a warning to Uber against what they described as “unfair and unilateral” business practices. Currently, over 6,000 taxis across Ireland operate through the Uber platform.
