Kishtwar (J&K), November 5: An encounter between security forces and terrorists erupted early Wednesday morning in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to official sources, troops of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, acting on specific intelligence inputs and in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, engaged militants in the general area of Chhatroo.
“In an intelligence-based operation conducted jointly with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, alert troops of White Knight Corps established contact with terrorists in the general area of Chhatroo during the early morning hours,” the Army said in an official post on X.
The Army confirmed that an exchange of fire was underway and that the operation remains in progress. However, no confirmation has yet been received regarding casualties on either side.
The encounter comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued a stern warning to Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, urging them to desist from attempting attacks on Indian soil. “If they repeat the mistake, goli ka jawab goley se diya jayega,” Shah said, implying that any aggression would be met with decisive retaliation. He further announced that explosives manufactured in Bihar’s upcoming defence corridor would be deployed in counterterrorism operations.
In a separate incident, a soldier lost his life in Poonch district on Tuesday when his service rifle accidentally discharged. The deceased, identified as Naik Amarjeet Singh, was on sentry duty at his camp in Jhulass village when the mishap occurred.
“He was immediately rushed to the Army’s field hospital but succumbed to his injuries,” an official stated, adding that police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation.
The Indian Army continues to maintain a strong presence along the 740-km Line of Control (LoC) spanning Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley, and Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district in the Jammu division, to counter infiltration and militant activity.
