London Student Case: Family Clash at Nellai Palayamkottai Registrar’s Office After Shocking Underage Marriage Allegations

Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu): Tensions flared at the Palayamkottai Sub-Registrar Office in Tirunelveli after a confrontation broke out between two families following the alleged marriage registration of a London-based student. The dramatic incident has since spiraled into a heated family dispute filled with shocking revelations and emotional appeals.

According to reports, the 18-year-old girl—who had returned to India from London just days earlier—had allegedly married a 25-year-old man, identified as her senior acquaintance. The girl’s family, particularly her maternal grandfather, has strongly condemned the incident, claiming that she was manipulated and misled into the relationship over several years.

Grandfather’s Emotional Statement

The girl’s grandfather, speaking to reporters, broke down as he described the family’s anguish.

“We come from a traditional and respectable family with deep roots in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi. We have always placed great importance on education and discipline. Our granddaughter was sent abroad to study, to build a future. We never imagined something like this could happen.”

He said that the family last spoke to the girl on a video call on her birthday, and everything seemed normal. “She was cheerful. But just a few days later, we were shocked to learn she had come to India and, within two days, got married,” he said.

According to him, the young man—aged 25—had allegedly been in contact with the girl for several years. “He was planning this for a long time,” the grandfather said, claiming the relationship may have begun when the girl was as young as 13 or 14.

“My granddaughter has only just turned 18. She is still a child. How can she be expected to make a decision like marriage? The boy is seven years older. He has deceived her,” he alleged.

Allegations of Exploitation

The family also alleged that the young man may have threatened the girl with videos or manipulated her emotionally. “We fear he has some videos of her and is using them to control her. That’s why she is frightened and obeying him,” the grandfather claimed.

He accused the man of exploiting multiple girls in a similar manner, calling it the work of a “planned group.” He said:

“This is not the first time. They lure young girls through social media, promising love and marriage. Parents must be vigilant. Monitor your children’s online activity closely. Evil is hiding behind phones these days.”

“We Believe in the Law”

When asked whether the family had approached the police, the grandfather said:

“Our girl became a major only three days ago. The police will act according to the law. We will also follow the law. We are not here to fight or take revenge. We just want to see our child and ensure she is safe.”

He added that despite the emotional turmoil, the family remains committed to a lawful resolution. “We are not people who resort to violence. But if this had happened to anyone’s daughter, they would feel the same pain,” he said.

Concern Over Moral Decay

Expressing concern over the growing exposure of children to harmful content online, he urged other parents to stay alert.

“Obscene videos are easily accessible these days. Children must be protected. They should not even know such things exist. Parents must guide them carefully,” he said, adding that his family is deeply broken but hopeful that truth and justice will prevail.

The case has sparked a wider conversation about underage relationships, online influence, and the vulnerability of young students living abroad. Police sources say that both families are being questioned, and legal experts are examining whether any child protection or cyber-related provisions apply to the case.

Authorities are expected to make a formal statement once the inquiry concludes.
